Aughawillan GAA Notes 6 February 2017
Aughawillan GAA Dinner Dance will be held on Saturday the 25th February 2017 in the Slieve Russell Hotel. Special guest on the night will be Charlie Redmond, who received three All Stars for his performances with Dublin, in 1993, 1994 and in 1995. In 1995, Charlie had his most triumphant year with the County, as he amassed 1-31 in a five-match campaign and went on to win an All-Ireland medal with Dublin against Tyrone. Tickets are now on sale. Price €30. Ticket Sales points: Damien Gilheany, Paul Bohan, Tracy McTague, Gene Maguire, Jerome/Morgan Quinn, Gerard McGovern. The 2016 Senior County Champions will be presented with their medals and the 1992 Senior County Championship winning team will also be honoured on the night. Band will be the “Pre-Nups”. Travel arrangements (buses) will be made in the next couple of weeks.
Back to Basics: Training for the 2017 year will begin this coming Sunday. A River cuts through rock not because of its power but because of its persistence -quoted by James Watkins, lived by Aughawillan GAA players, following on from another County Championship win in 2016, the eye is now on the two in a row title. Wishing the lads every success this year, Willies Abú!!
Registration: Members Registration afternoon in the Clubrooms this Sunday the 12th February from 12pm. Alternatively, if you cannot attend and wish to become a member of the club, please contact Michael Flanagan, Ciaran Gilheany or Damien Gilheany. Please note that membership of the club allows you full use of our gym and club room facilities and safeguards you are insured on the grounds. Adults €25.00 and Underage €10.00.
The Gathering: Many thanks to all our club supporters and ticket sellers who showed up on Saturday night for the “Gathering” in Jackie’s Bar. Many thanks also to Kathryn and Jackie for the entertainment, refreshments and continued support, which is much appreciated by our club.

Comhghairdeas: Congratulations to the Leitrim team who beat Wicklow on Sunday in the first round of the Allianz Football League, with a great final score of Wicklow 0-10 Leitrim 1-17. It is great to see Mark Plunkett, Gary Plunkett and Noel Plunkett joining county stalwart Barry Prior on the Leitrim team.
Corraleehan Parish Walk: Corraleehan Parish Walk continues each Thursday night at 8.30pm from Corraleehan Church. Community spirit, health, fitness, whatever your goals we will be happy to see you, everyone welcome.
Choreographed Dance: Many of our fine athlete’s spent this past weekend in Manchester practicing a Barry Manilow classic Copa Cabanna and are looking for additional dancers for a possible Flash Mob. If interested please contact Sean Quinn who is the leader of this Flash Mob with a possible exposé at the dinner dance!
Comhghairdeas: Aughawillan GAA would like to congratulate Padraig and Caroline Mc Govern on the birth of their fourth child, Ms. Saoirse Mc Govern. We have no doubt Saoirse will be following in her sister’s footsteps this summer in her Aughawillan colours. Beannachtaí Dé oraibh agus ar do leanbán nua Saoirse Mág Samhradháin.

Go raibh maith agat: Just a word of thanks to Aisling Maguire, Morgan Quinn, Stephen McBrien, Gerard Mc Govern and the many others who have helped me in the role of PRO over the last three years. Other commitments mean that I must take a back seat, but would like to express what an absolute honour it has been to be part of the executive and to witness first-hand the many highs that our club has experienced of late.
