Aughawillan GAA Notes 14 November 2016
Connacht Club Senior Football Championship Semi-Final: County Champions 2016! What a great year of Football! Delighted with the lads! All they have given us this year! So many good days out! That was the chime of pride murmuring through the crowd on Sunday. Definitely it was not the finish that we wished for but for many acknowledging that we were still the County Champions, playing against the very best in Connacht, was simply enough for today! Joe Brolly would probably have choked on his vowels spluttering, had he to see the emotional applause and goodwill bestowed on the lads as they left the field. But for Aughawillan supporters it was simply their way of displaying that no matter what happens, what bad day comes, as a club and a community we will stick together through thick and thin! No more than our lads on the field, their continuing enthusiasm in the second half and never may die attitude was inspiring. Now that’s over, its back to the planning board and with the league reconvened we look forward to the semi-final in two week’s time. It’s been quiet a number of years since we won the League and the Championship in the one year, I know there is a game between us and the final, but for this supporter who wore her auld boots on Sunday just in case she had to run on to the field, sure you never know unless you look forward, plan forward and desire to reach their potential. Willies Abú!!!!
