Aughawillan GAA Notes 14/03/2016
Gallogly Catering ACL Division 4: Congratulations to our Junior team who beat Bornacoola on Sunday afternoon in the park, final score was 1-07 to 0-07. This was the first round of the league, and a great start to the year. However, with numbers very tight this year, can we encourage all players to please keep in regular contact with managers Pat Flanagan and Pat Joe Mc Niff as to availability. Aughawillan will now play Ballinamore at 12 noon in Ballinamore next Sunday.
U16 St. Brigid’s: St. Brigids had a great start to the league this week, playing Mohill in Mohill on Saturday they walked away with a comfortable win. St. Brigids 10-14 to Mohill 3-07. St. Brigids will now play Allen Gaels next Saturday 19 March, at 12 noon. Venue is to be confirmed.
Under 12: Reminder to all parents, Blitzes for Under 12 age group will start on Friday 25th March 2016 and run for five weeks.
St. Brigids GAA Club Fundraiser: St. Brigids Table Quiz will take place this Friday 18th March at 9pm in The Standing Stone. Table of four Adults – €40. Please support.

Leitrim Hurling: Congratulations to our Leitrim Hurlers who put on a great performance at the weekend beating Sligo in the Allianz Hurling League, Leitrim 3-15 to Sligo 2-13. We wish them further success as they take on Fermanagh this coming Sunday in Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada at 2pm.
Comhghairdeas: Aughawillan GAA wishes to congratulate Sarah Doonan who has been elected to the Foróige National Council. It is wonderful to see a young woman in the area taking part on a national stage of this organisation.
Health and Well Being: As part of our Health and Well Being initiative Aughawillan GAA wish to offer EVERYONE in the community an opportunity to be tested for Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS). AMS provide a comprehensive, on-site Doctor-led Cardiac Screening service to clubs, schools & companies nationwide. The service is ultimately aimed at reducing the incidents of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) in Ireland and promoting a healthy lifestyle. The service would be offered at the Clubrooms in April.
AMS screen all senior inter-county GAA teams across Ireland. The service is based on the recommendations of the GAA’s Medical Scientific and Advisory Committee http://www.gaa.ie/medical-and-player-welfare/cardiac-screening and The European Society of Cardiology.
Individuals pay for themselves. Each screening takes 20 minutes and appointments can be arranged for the day. Individuals from age 12+ can be assessed.
In accordance with international best practice the Cardiac Screening includes:
• A Personal & Family History Questionnaire • A Medical Examination with a Doctor • Lifestyle Assessment • Blood Pressure measurement • Obesity Screening • 12 Lead Electrocardiogram (ECG) • Consultant Cardiologist review and report The individual fee for the Cardiac Screening service is €60. *People with LAYA health insurance are able to avail of screening for FREE. People with other health insurance may be able to claim a % back at the end of the year. Or it is also tax deductible. Dr Alan Byrne is the Medical Director.

Combhrón: Aughawillan GAA wishes to sympathise with the family of Jack Fox, Glendargan, Ballinamore. Jack was a wonderful man in the area, who was known far and wide for his love of all animals, his sharp wit and extensive knowledge. It is sadly an end of an era. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
