Shield: Aughawillan had their first outing this past Sunday in the Shield Group C Competition against Bornacoola. This was a great start to the year, with a large crowd of supporters and the first game of the season being a win, all thoughts are on a positive season. Final score was Bornacoola 0-11 to Aughawillan 0-15. Aughawillan will now play Leitrim Gaels on Sunday 6th March at 12 noon in Aughawillan. Please come along and show your support.

Minor League: St. Brigids played St. Marys Kiltoghert last Saturday in Aughnasheelin. The lads put on a fine show and were up by nine points at half time, winning the game by a point at the final blow of the whistle. Final score St. Marys 1-10 to St. Brigids 0-14. Congratulations lads.

Registration: If you wish to become a member of the club, please contact Michael Flanagan, Ciaran Gilheany or Damien Gilheany. Adult membership €25 and Junior Membership €10. All paid up members will be notified by text of all games and important club events throughout the year. Anyone using our facilities must be paid up members for insurance purposes. This includes using the walking track and gym facilities. It is a matter of urgency that all Membership should be paid as soon as possible.

U21 Medal Presentation: Many thanks to Cillian O’Connor who presented St. Brigid’s U21 Leitrim Championship winners 2015 and Garadice Gaels U16 2013, 11 a side Championship winners on Saturday night in The Ballymac Inn. There was a great crowd at this event with young and old in attendance, a special mention to one young man in the area, Sean Mc Govern, Corraleehan who was delighted to meet one of his hero’s in his Mayo jersey. Many thanks to Shane Maguire of The Ballymac Inn for hosting the event.

U16: U16 League is scheduled to start on Saturday 12th March 2016. If anyone at this age group is not receiving texts please contact Damien Gilheany, Chairman for St. Brigids.

Under 12: Blitzes will start on Friday 25th March 2016 and run for five weeks.

St. Brigids GAA Club Fundraiser: Table Quiz in The Standing Stone on Friday 4th March at 9pm. Table of four Adults – €40. Please support.

Health and Well Being: As part of our Health and Well Being initiative Aughawillan GAA wish to offer EVERYONE in the community an opportunity to be tested for Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS). AMS provide a comprehensive, on-site Doctor-led Cardiac Screening service to clubs, schools & companies nationwide. The service is ultimately aimed at reducing the incidents of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) in Ireland and promoting a healthy lifestyle. The service would be offered at the Clubrooms in April.
AMS screen all senior inter-county GAA teams across Ireland. The service is based on the recommendations of the GAA’s Medical Scientific and Advisory Committee and The European Society of Cardiology.
Individuals pay for themselves. Each screening takes 20 minutes and appointments can be arranged for the day. Individuals from age 12+ can be assessed.
In accordance with international best practice the Cardiac Screening includes:
• A Personal & Family History Questionnaire • A Medical Examination with a Doctor • Lifestyle Assessment • Blood Pressure measurement • Obesity Screening • 12 Lead Electrocardiogram (ECG) • Consultant Cardiologist review and report The individual fee for the Cardiac Screening service is €60. *People with LAYA health insurance are able to avail of screening for FREE. People with other health insurance may be able to claim a % back at the end of the year. Or it is also tax deductible. Dr Alan Byrne is the Medical Director.
