Aughawillan GAA Notes – 27th April 2015

Senior League ACL 1: Congratulations to our senior team who beat Melvin Gaels on Saturday in Kinlough. The first half was evenly contested, but the second half saw the experienced “willies” pull away in the scores and afforded us a win. Final score was 0-14 Aughawillan to 0-09 Melvin Gaels. Team Line Up: Goalkeeper: Colin Maguire Back line: Declan Mc Govern, Gerard Mc Govern and Michael Quinn, Half Back Line: Fergal Mc Tague, Noel Plunkett and Barry Prior. Mid Field: Sean Fox and Mark Plunkett. Half Forward Line: Rory Mc Tague, Stephen Gilheany and Morgan Quinn. Full Forward: Pearce Dolan, Ciaran Gilheany and Gary Plunkett. Subs: Shane Flanagan, Sean Quinn, Michael Prior, Fionnbar Quinn, Ronan Maxwell, John Gilheany.
Thanks to all the supporters who travelled the long distance, your support is much appreciated. Next week will see Aughawillan play Mohill at 7pm in Mohill on Saturday 2nd May. We wish the lads continued success.

Junior League ACL 3: Aughawillan Junior team played St. Marys on Sunday in Carrick on Shannon. The lads performed well against a very strong Carrick team, and special thanks to those studying and doing exams who turned out to play the game.

U8/10 Garadice Gaels: Many thanks to parents and mentors who brought the U8/10 teams to Cloone this past weekend for a Blitz. This was an excellent opportunity for the children to have a kick around and many thanks to Cloone GAA who facilitated the morning. Please note training is in Aughawillan on Wednesdays at 7pm and in Drumreilly on Fridays at 7pm for this age group.

U16 St. Brigid’s: Many thanks to Kilmore/Shannon Gaels who afforded a challenge game to St. Brigid’s U16 on Monday evening in Kilmore. U16 league has now begun with St. Brigid’s playing 15 a side. They have two games this coming weekend playing Mohill on Friday 1st May at 7pm in Mohill and Ballinamore SOH on Monday evening 4th May at 7pm in Aughawillan.

Annual Sponsored Cycle: Alerting all cycling enthusiasts, there will be a sponsored cycle at the end of May.

Positive Mental Health Evening: A mental health awareness evening is to take place in Drumshanbo next month. The Lough Allen Hotel in the town will be the venue for the event on Thursday May 7th at 8pm. The local branch of Cara Pharmacy has organised this event, kindly supported by Teva Pharmaceuticals, the aim of the evening is to increase awareness of the range of mental health services in the area and highlighting measures that can be taken to encourage positive mental health. The area of suicide prevention will also be addressed on the evening, an appropriate choice given that Leitrim has one of the highest rates of suicide in the country. Guest speakers for the occasion will include: Mark Harte, Tyrone footballer: Coping with adversity. MC for the night Charlie McGettigan

Country Walk: Enjoy a country walk this and every Thursday at 8.30 from Corraleehan Church.
