Connacht Gold Senior Championship: Aughawillan played Carrigallen on Saturday evening in Cloone, in an eight place play off for the Championship. A successful win was brought home by the lads who fought hard through out the game to gain scores. At half time Carrigallen were winning 1-02 to 0-03, and with the second half begun the lads took to the field with renewed vigour. A near goal by Aughawillan within minutes of the second half start, was followed by a point for Carrigallen, but with sheer determination the scores kept rising until with only ten minutes to go Mark Plunkett scored a goal and put Aughawillan in the lead at 1-09 to 1-07. This followed quickly with an attempt by Carrigallen to score a goal and was saved by the quick hands of Colin Maguire. Some forward play followed but resulted in no score for Aughawillan. The crowd were treated to more intense play as Carrigallen fought back hard to score but with a sigh of relief for Aughawillan supporters the whistle blew and Aughawillan had made it a step further in to the Championship.
Scores were by Morgan Quinn, Ciaran Gilheany, Pierce Dolan and Mark Plunkett.
Aughawillan will now play Gortlettragh in the next round of the Championship and we wish the lads continued success.
Best Wishes: Best wishes are sent to Sean Fox who got injured during the Senior game at the weekend.
